The village of Muizenburg lies on the road between Fish Hoek and Cape Town

Muizenburg. The name itself conjures up visions of long beaches and surfing amongst other things (above).

Muizenburg used to be one of the premier seaside resorts in it`s day, boasting holiday homes to the likes of Cecil Rhodes and other famous personalities. At present there is plenty going on in the village, and much is geared toward restoring some of that former glory.

Plenty remains reminding one that after all, this is still Muizenburg. The pavilion which itself is a story to be told and the colorful bathing huts which are reminiscent of Victorian times (below).

For the beach lover, there is plenty of that, with one long beach curving right through to Gordon`s Bay. A surfers paradise where world records were set as well as plenty of opportunities for kite surfing and a host of other water sport activities.

Besides the beach there is a whole playground within meters of the beach and plenty of fun to be had here too at the pool by the "SOS Muizenberg" as well as water slides and a putt-putt course (below). Also for nature lovers there is Silvermine which extends inland from here.

Muizenburg itself being so steeped in history, it is no surprise one finds so many monuments in the area, including Rhodes Cottage, Cecil Rhodes` seaside home, and the railway station which has been proclaimed a national monument, among others.

Below we have Het Posthuys, dating back to 1673, originally used as a signal house and also a fort, being the countries oldest European house.
